Re: Robey Samuel
Have you any info on a Nancy Elizabeth aka Babe ROBEY Smith Layton. Can't figure out if she was Benjamin's or Samuel's daughter. I heard that Dolph visited her a lot when they were living. She lived N of Bloomfield MO and would walk from her house to Bloomfield about every day. Babe was my grandfather's step-mother. One day I commented to my Dad, Raymond Layton, that Grandma Babe wasn't his real grandmother. His remark was, "I don't care, she is as far as I'm concerned, she's the only grandma I've ever known." She died in 1959. She has been a real mystery since I started trying to locate info on her. I have talked with several of the Robey family members, but they know less than I do. My dad was close friends with Kip and he knew all the Robey boys. I believe one of them was known as foot and a half, but I don't know which one.
I haven't heard about the McClain name being the Robeys, but I am not close to the family. Probably close family members would know this.
I had assumed that Samuel was born in KY. So, you are saying that:
1. Samuel came over to America on a ship
2. His name was McClain when he came to America
3. His mother's maiden name was ROBY....
4. His half-siblings were HIBBS
Did he have any full siblings?
I started researching the Taylors which lead to the Clines then to Laytons and then to the Robeys. I have a lot of other surnames in between the ones just named.
Would really love to know more about Grandma Babe.
