Re: Spellings of Robichaud

Just found your forum.I believe I am a Robichaud descendant.
My great-grandfather, Gideon, was born in 1821 (or 1823) in Lachine, Quebec, Canada.When he relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, the name got "Americanized" to RABSHAW.

I haven't been able to get my hands on his marriage information to determine his parents' names.He married Catherine Cameron supposedly July 2, 1849, by Father Brady in Buckingham, Quebec.
I have done some research on Fr. Brady.I believe in that year he was at St. Gregoire-de-Naziance Roman Catholic Church in Buckingham.However, kind souls who have tried to find the marriage record have come up empty handed.Do you think they were "ostracized" because he married a Scots-woman rather than someone of French descent?

Any information anyone might have to help me would be most appreciated.
