Stephen's will from 1809 names wife Mercy and son Jonah.Sylvester's History of Stamford says the family came from Dutchess County.In Dutchess County, we find Stephen on tax lists back to 1758, residing at Southeast, a town now in Putnam County.When he sold his land in 1787, the land record describes it as being in "the oblong," the strip of borderland long disputed with Connecticut.Odds are he was from the Ridgefield CT area, perhaps that one born there in 1739.Writefor more. --KR
