Just checking in
Hi - my name is Andrew Rodbourn and I live in the village of Lambourn, Berkshire. England.
My family were Turf Reporters (horseracing) in Lambourn over three generations. The farthest back ancestor I have been able to trace so far is Thomas Rodbourn my great-great grandfather. He was born in Wiltshire around 1806/7.
He and his family were living in Marlborough, Wiltshire in 1841 - he was an Ostler. In 1843 he died as a result of injuries sustained in a Pub fight! His youngest son Henry - my great-grandfather arrived in Lambourn (then Chipping Lamborne)around the mid 1850's. He was a jockey and rode several winners for Mr. Joseph Saxon the famous racehorse owner. He then became racehorse trainer for Mr. Saxon and eventually founded a turf reporter business. He passed on this calling to his son Henry James Rodbourn- my grandfather. His exploits are recorded in various books about Lambourn and horseracing. He in turn handed the business on to my father and uncle - Clifford and John Rodbourn. Uncle John passed away some years ago but dad is alive and still enjoying a punt on the horses.
Hello again Kay.
