Re: ROHWER GER>IA
I was recently in Northern Germany visiting relatives of my grandmother's. My grandmother grew up in a small town called Russee (now part of Kiel). While I was there, we visited an aunt Karin (Sellmer) who was married to Gustav Rohwer. They live on his 300 year old family farm in Schierensee. I was also in Rendsburg- these places are all very close to one another- not like in North America. I am inputing family info into my tree from a book called "Russee eine Dorfchronik" by Johann Kuhl. One of the entries that I thought you would be interested in was "Christine Magdalena Bierend verh. (married) Backermeister (master baker) Johannes Detlef Rohwer, geb.(born) 14 3 1878 Russee , gest.(died) 3 3 1957 Russee.
Also: Johann Jochim Butenschon verh (married) Marie Margarete Christine Rohwer,geb.7 10 1850 Schierensee,gest.18 12 1936 Russee. There is also many Riemers mentioned in the book. I have a picture of my grandparents in a horse and buggy taken in Kiel in the summer of 1920. There is another couple sitting in the front, my grandmother has written that the other lady is Ellen Reimer. I think they were second cousins through their mothers.
I have pictures and a video of the visit. I was very impressed when they showed me old stone age artifacts that they had found in their fields and old documents of their farm when Northern Germany was under Danish Rule. If you think any of this is of interest to you, I can send you copies.
