Re: Zerah Rolfe, 1806 - 1842 NJ-->OH
I just discovered that Sarah Curryer Rolfe married widower Stephen Scudder after her husband Zerah Rolfe died. Stephen had previously been married to Sarah's sister Elizabeth. If you do a search at the Scudder genforum you will find a Scudder genealogy, although the person who posted it has the order of Stephen's wives reversed.
There's a Sarah Curryer in the 1820 census living in Liberty Twp, Butler County, OH, presumably Sarah Curryer Rolfe's mother. She seems to be head of household so she must be a widow. (I'm using familysearch.org so don't have access to the actual census images.) Skipping to the 1850 census both Sarahs are living in the same household, still in Liberty Twp, their names given as Sarah Currer and Sarah Rolph. Sarah Rolfe's two sons are listed in this household: James K., age 12, and William R., age 9. There's also a 2-yr old boy listed with the surname Denkens, perhaps her nephew.
In the 1860 census for Liberty Twp, Stephen Scudder is apparently now married to Sarah Curryer as his household members are Sarah Scudder, age 45, Mary A. Scudder, age 18, Ezra W. Scudder, age 5, and Elizabeth Scudder, age 17. The two teen-agers are Stephen's by his first marriage and presumably Ezra is Stephen's by his second wife Sarah.
There is a Zera Rolf listed as an early settler (before 1797) in Whitewater Twp, Hamilton County, about 35 miles from where these families are living in Liberty Twp. I am wondering if these two men are father and son, and if the older Zera is the same person as the Zerah Rolfe mentioned in various records in Morris County NJ between 1780 and 1796.
