This may be the earliest ancestor of many ROMANS in Puerto Rico and may be the grandfather of my earliest documented ancestor Miguel ROMAN of Arecibo, P.R. He is mentioned in a book published in Mexico of twenty thousand Spanish immigrants to Spanish America, and he is the earliest to arrive in Puerto Rico. Captain Alonso ROMAN, b. Cadiz, Spain, c.1550, was the son of Pedro ROMAN and Doña Isabel PELAEZ, b. Gibraltar. Alonso married Doña Catalina de SOTO AVILES, daughter of Juan DE SOTO and Doña Gracia de VILLAVICENCIO.
