Rosati, Giuseppe, 1st Bishop of St. Louis circa 1836
Joseph or Giuseppe Rosati was born in or near Sora in the Kingdom of Naples. He became the first Catholic Bishop of St Louis in the United States around 1836. Does anyone have any information about his family?Sora is now in the Province of Frosinone in the Lazio (Latio - Latium) region of Italy.
My Rosati great-grandfather was born in the same area. I do not know his name, but he did have three sons. The names of two are Pasquale Rosati and Domenico Epifanio Rosati who was my grandfather. (My grandfather was born in the remote village of Rosciolo dei Marsi which is a fraction of the Commune of Magliano dei Marsi in the Province of L'Aquila of the Abruzzo.All three brothers settled in Ovindoli of L'Aquila of the Abruzzo.
Pasquale Rosati became the father of twelve children. My grandfather, Domenico Epifanio Rosati, was the father of fourteen children.The third brother whose name I do not know became the father of one child:Emilio Rosati who never married and had no known children.
My grandfather's fourteen children included five sons:Sabatino Rosati 2 Mattia Rosati 3 Vincenzo Rosati 4 My father, Attilio Rosati and 5 an unnamed son who died soon after birth around 1900-1902.Sabatino Rosati became the mayor of Ovindoli at the end of World War II around 1945 and lived out his life there. Mattia Rosati who died in San Francisco. He has descendants living there and in Italy. Vincenzo Rosati also died in San Francisco. His three sons were Roberto, Bene, and Giovanni aka Nino. Bene Rosati left a daughter named Sonia Rosati. She is the only survivor from Vincenzo Rosati.
My father, Attilio Rosati, died in Detroit. He left four children: Elvio (that's me), Agostino, Lilliana, and Mauro.
