Dear Ken:
I am researching my Dad's family. I have not been able to trace back farther than my g-g grandfather. His name was John (Johann) B. Roskamp (At least this is how it was spelled by our family.)He would have been born in 1831, Germany (Prussia), and died in 1911.I have noticed in the 1865 census that his name was recorded as Rosfcamp but it has also been spelled as Rosscamp, Roscamp, Rosecamp, and Roskamp (as I have always known it spelled) In every census I can find, he is listed as being from Prussia or Germany.I have never found a city to trace to.This John (Johann) Roskamp lived in Fulton County, Illinois. He lived and own farm ground near a little town by the name of Banner, Illinois.I have found in the last month or so a baptismal certificate of his son that appears that he stated his home as Ramsdorf, Germany (very hard to read it). When reading the newsletters, your name was close to what my g-g- Grandfather's name so was wondering if any connection could be possible. He came to the states about 1856.It was always said that a brother came with him but returned to Germany. The family never heard from the brother again so we do not know if he returned or just settled somewhere else or possibly he died returning.I would appreciate any information you could provide if possible.Thank you so much.Carol
