Re: Rouston Family of Newark Lincs UK
My theory is that William Rouston was actually chr 1793 and not in Newark, but Waddington, Lincs.He was a brother of my 2g grandmother, Elizabeth Rooston chr 1791 Waddington.
I have been unable to discover who William's wife was or where/when they married.
On the 1861 Census he is shown as FIL and living with the family of a Sara Shepherd aged 45 and her husband Thomas.Elizabeth Smith aged 21 is shown as a "daughter in law" of Thomas.I think this means what we call today, step daughter.
According to UGU, GRO and census returns -
Charles Smith ma Sarah Rouston 16 June 1836 Newark;
On the 1841 Census the family are at Millgate, Newark, including a daughter called Charlotte;
Someone called Charles Smith died in Newark RD in the Jun Q of 1850;
Sara Smith appears at the Millgate address on the 1851 Census with 3 children but no husband;
Someone called Thomas Shepherd and someone called Sarah Smith were both married in Newark RD in the Jun Q of 1860;
Sarah Shepherd appears at the Millgate address on the 1861 Census with a husband called Thomas
