My husband's greatgrandfather William Routt (see posting by Darrell Elder from February, 1999)was related to Gov. Routt in some manner according to Daisy Routt Elder, William's daughter and my husband's grandmother. I have found record of him in the Denver City Directory, but family history says he died in 1900. Have no record and his wife Sarah lived in Telluride in 1900, according to the census. The family story is that William built houses and that one of John L.'s children had a new cart and pony. Came to visit William and family while they were working or living on a river. The little girl's cart turned over and she eventually died. John L. blamed William and disowned him as a relative. Does anyone else have any information. William was born 1845.
