The error is not monumental. Jesse's mother is still a Pugh. The reason I became intrigued with the marriage goes back to the fact that I had to figure out how my line fits into the Rubles. My James Rubel b. ca 1790 in Virginia was an enigma. I slowly pieced together some clues for him, and formulated a theory that he could be the son of Jesse Rubel and Sarah Pugh (based on the genealogies available). I was troubled, however, by the use of Burnette/Barnett in my family line as a middle name for some of James Rubel's sons. I also noticed that James himself had a middle name starting with B. I put some queries out (a number of years ago)regarding the possible connection between Rubel and Barnett. However, no firm leads. Then with the release of many documents online I found two references (land documents) which were for the Barnett family. In both documents Sarah is an heir of a Barnettr and wife or widow (in one document) of Jesse Rubel (of both Frederick Co., VA and then Steubenville, OH). I have yet to find someone who has researched the Barnetts, but it seems fairly solid that Jesse married Sarah Barnett, and that James is their son.
