The s is not consistently used, however, the original spelling was Rudkin from county Carlow, from where my father emigrated in the 1950's. The original Rudkins' in Ireland were Anglicans and landed gentry. They were part of the Cromwellian settlement of Ireland in the 1650's. The original settler was Henry Rudkin buried in the nave of St. Lazerians church in Ireland.
