Hello, FYI, this name, if you are related was nobility in the high Medio Eve back in Italy.Apparently, though, any nobels of the time are just history now.
If you can find a connection, Rufolo's were one of the original founders of Ravello (earlier Rebello) on the Amalfi coast in Italy.
Apparently, at the time the town was founded, wealthy families moved up into the hills surrounding Naples to provide security for their families from invading armies and bandits. The area they settled was a difficult area, being called "The Scala" because the settlements were on the side of hills which sloped considerably.
The first settlement was the Costiera Amalfitana, which was a Roman colony around 340 b.c.
Desiring to free themselves from the "Republic of Amalfatani", they started a new city in the same area and built forts fortified with many soldiers. The principal noble familes of Rome escaped to these new cities where they built sumptuous palaces surrounded by beautiful villas and gardens.
The people that founded Ravello split from the Republic because they did not agree to betray the Norman King who ruled at the time and were supported by the Pope and appointed their own Doge.
The other families who founded the town were:Bove, Muscettolo, Rufolo and Rogedeo (sp?).You can see the family crests on postcards from this town.
Upon searching myself for this name, because supposedly, one of the Bove's from my line married one of the Rufolo princesses all I could find was Nichola and Sigligaita Rufolo.
Let me know if you have discovered anything recently and it you have made any connections between our families.
Best of Luck
Michelle Bove
