Re: James RUSSELL Will probate - May term 1812, Guilford Co. North Carolina
I'm wondering if you might know if there's a VOWELL connection to the lineage of James RUSSELL whose will was probated in Guilford Co. NC in 1812.According to the will, his children were Alexander, William, Robert, David and Martha. My ggg grandfather, William Vowell, b. c1774 prob. in Guilford Co., NC, baseborn son of Elizabeth VOWELL and James Lett, Jr., (Bastardy bond 1779 NC Archives plus DNA testing)was an executor (along with James RUSSELL's son Alexander) and witness for the will of James RUSSELL. I'm trying to confirm or eliminate the possibility that William VOWELL might have had a family connection to these RUSSELLs since I don't know Elizabeth VOWELL's maiden name, for sure. It's thought that she may have been married to William VOWELL (SR.) at the time of the birth of her illegitimate son.The marriage to William VOWELL, Sr.is not proven and is only something we're investigating. Perhaps William VOWELL, executor and witness, was only a friend or neighbor of this James RUSSELL but since maiden names of female ancestors are sometimes very difficult to determine, any clue can be helpful.Thank you very much for any input or advice.
