My mother was doin some family research and some distant relative gave her this word document. I added what I know of the current Russom family to the list. I hope this helps some one.
I will start with our earliest proven ancestor.
Price Russom was born in Maryland.(Don’t know exactly where nor the names of his parents.
He married Elizabeth Weden in Guilford County, N.C. in June 1798.(I think that Elizabeth’s father was Roland (maybe Oliver was his middle name?) Weedon and that she had a brother named James Weedon.)
Price and Elizabeth were in Franklin Co., GA by 1801.(Area later became Madison Co., GA)
Roland and James Weedon also went there, but their trail ends there.
Price and Elizabeth Russom had the following children:
Andrew Russom – was 14 years old when his father died.
Oliver Milton Russom (married Mary Matilda Cleghorn – I am descended from them)
Roland P. Russom (married Isabella Seegar)
Peggy (Margaret) married Sam Shoemaker
Polly married John Shoemaker (Though my family records give her name as “Polly”
which is a nickname for Mary, her descendantscall her “Kitty.”)
Betsy married ______Blythe
Melie married _______ Hammond.
Elizabeth Russom died and Price remarried to Polly Whitworth. They had one son, Winston Price Russom.Who must have been born just about the time Price Russom died.Winston Price Russomwent to Mississippi, Tippah County.
Price Russom served in the War of 1812 (served in 1814 and 1815 for about 6 months)
Price Russom died in 1816.
Andrew Russom was apprenticed to a fellow named James Phillips until he reached age of 21.He was to be given 1 year’s schooling, adequate clothing and a horse and saddle worth at least $100.00 when he reached 21.(I have copy of the papers that show this)
Almost all the Russoms moved over to the western part of Georgia about 1835…Chattooga, Cobb, and Paulding counties.
Andrew married (I think her name was Huldah E. Howell, she was apparently later called Elizabeth)they had several children. The census of Cherokee Co., Alabama showed their family in 1880 to be thus:
Russum, Andru, age 78, both parents born in Maryland
Elizabeth, wife, age 52
Mary, daughter, age 21, b. GA
James, grandson, age 2. b. Ala.

(maiden name Tucker), Mary M. Russom, Cintha E. Hunter, Hannah E. Hurley (husband Stephen Hurley)All signed by “mark” except William C. Russom and Theodocia (wife of Alphonsa)
(Note by Mary Hicks: daughter Jane Day must have died before the sale of the land. Also, Was “Emerline” of the earlier census now called “Cintha E.”?)
They (Thomas, Alphonsa, William, Mary and their mother, Elizabeth)went to Texas in winterin wagon.I believe that Archie Monroe Russom told me that he was born on bed of shucks on 1st of January, 1894 just as they arrived.
The census of Wood County, TX in 1900 showed the following Russoms:
Russom, Thomas b. Dec. 1853, (I had typed only Thomas, but in ink I had added “Oscar”.I
don’t remember when or why I did that.I think his tombstone
saysThomas “Oliver” Russom.OLIVER is a name handed
down in the family, at least mybranch of the family..)

Who is now married and now on his own, were the 2 children of Mary Russom who came with her brothers from Alabama.(They were listed as “James” and “Lou” in the 1880 Alabama census, but it was not uncommon for a change of namesfor a person in census records.).
A descendant of one of Andrew Russom’s girls who stayed in the Alabama/Tennessee area told me not long ago that her grandmother had told her that there was one “pretty wild daughter”, or something to that effect. She said that she had some illegitimate children.
I did not have this information when I went to see Monroe Russom in Quitman, TX.I would have asked himabout it had I known.
Now the following was told to me by Archie Monroe Russom when I went to see him in 1980.

Lou Edna(died young)(a descendant of T. Hysontold me that she thinks this in error…
Thatthe name LouEdna is from another family. However, I
note that in the 1900 census, it was recorded that Susan had had
12 children and that only 10 were still alive.I think this list is
correct.Monroe listed 12 of them?)

I think I may have copiedthis cemetery information from a book.
I can’t prove any farther back than Price Russom. However I know that there were 3 Russam men (yes, the original spelling in America seems to have been “Russam”, but there are many variations)Thomas, Edward and Stephen.
I do not think thatStephen Russom left any male descendants to carry on the name.
I think that we are descended from Edward Russam who came over on the ship “Cecilius of London” in 1677.Edward had several children.I SUSPECT thatPrice Russom was his grandson, that Price’smother was one “Africa (Price?) Russom” who was a daughter of Vincent Price and Africa Lane.
I know that there were some Russoms in North Carolina whom I believe to have been Price’s brother and sister and the “brother” was named“Vincent Russom.” The “sister”. Elizabeth named a son “Price” Ozment. There was a widow, Africa Russom, in the 1790 census of Maryland, but I cannot determine whom she had married.I do believe… but can’t be sure… that she was our “Granny.”
