Re: Thomas Ryan b1876 Echuca Vic Australia
thanks very much for your email re Thomas Ryan b 1833 who migrated to Victoria in 1840. Do you know where he was born, who his parents were and which ship they came on? Also what was his employment?
Your Thomas could have been brother to my Michael Ryan b 1823 Clonoulty Tipperary as he said he had a brother in Brisbane when he arrived in 1852 (but I have not discovered who he was). Michael called his eldest son Thomas (b1841).Usually the first son was named after the paternal grandfather. Michael's second son was named Michael (b1842). He married in Rockhampton in 1864 and it appears that he remained in Qld until 1871 working as a miner and butcher. He and his family moved from Rockhampton to Echuca Vic in 1871 where they may have had relatives or possibly it was the attraction of gold in the area. Could you tell me the names of your Thomas' children- if they are the same, they could be of the same extended family.
I haven't found the death of Michael b 1842 yet but his wife Anastasia died in Sydney in 1910 shortly after returning from New Zealand. As many of the miners followed the gold diggings, I think Michael may have ended his days in NZ. This could be a possibility for your Thomas too.NZ deaths are on-line so you may find him.
I hope to hear from you. Thanks
