Ulas B. Hawkins, 76, VA/TN, obituary; Salyers-Hawkins
Ulas B. Hawkins, 76, of Surgoinsville, TN, passed away
Monday, January 20, 2010, at Holston Manor.
Ulas was born in Castlewood, Russell Co VA, and lived most
of his life in Kingsport, TN. He served in the U.S. Air
force for over 4 years. Ulas was retired from Kingsport
Press after over 20 years of service. He attended Emmaus
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Salling
Hawkins; his parents, Vencil and Carnetta Salyers Hawkins.
He is survived by one son, Chris Hawkins of Kingsport, TN;
two grandsons, Alex and Derrick; one great grandchild;
step-mother, Mary Hawkins of Castlewood, VA; one sister,
Jean Peters and husband Jerry of Surgoinsville, TN; three
brothers, Rev. Harold Hawkins and wife Jean of Kingsport,
TN, Billy Hawkins of Castlewood, VA, and Bobby Hawkins of
Castlewood, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.,
Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Emmaus Baptist Church,
West Carters Valley Road.
A service will follow at 7 p.m., with Rev. Harold Hawkins
and Rev. Bryan Moore officiating. Music will be provided
by the church choir.
A military graveside service will be held 11 a.m.,
Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Mountain Home National
Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN, with Hawkins County Color
Guard and Tennessee National Guard conducting the rites.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
