I'm trying to make connections of my grandfather to other Sandbergs. My grandfather, Ivar K Sandberg, came to America in 1900 when he was 17 yrs old. He was living with someone while going to U-Minnesota from 1900-1904! I don't know if he used his middle name as his last name or if he used the Sandberg name because of someone he knew. His real name was Iver Sandberg Antonsen when he was born. I know that the last name, "Anton" is his father's name and "sen" means "son"....I also know that the people of Norway took the name of their farm as their last name. They would change their last name every time they moved to another farm with a different name.
I'm hopping to find more about this. What I understand from hearing the stories of my family that my grandfather did live with another family member.
I almost forgot, one of my uncle's even married a Sandberg. They claim that they're not related in any way. Both Sandberg families lived in Barrett, Grant County, Minnesota. If you could check your info and see if you just might have any Sandbergs from that area. I'm sure that I could get alot of info about that family from my Aunt. Her name is Marvel Sandberg! I do know that her parents are also buried in Barrett!!! I have a connection in that area who just might make a trip to Barrett and get the info for me from the cemetery.
Let me know if there's a chance that Sandberg family might be part of your family.
