SANGERS in London and later in Australia.
My earliest SANGER is Thomas, born about 1789 who was a cooper and died in London on 3 October 1850, aged 61. On 17 July 1817, he married Eleanor Cotterell at Christ Church, Sothwark. They had a number of children, including my direct ancestor Edward Cotterell Sanger who, after travelkling to California for the gold rush, returned to England and then went to Australia for the very same reason, and stayed.
Others in the family were Helen Frances SANGER (1818-73) who married George Bright, and two of whose daughters also travelled to Australia, Sarah (b 1819) who went to America and died before 1877, possibly having married Lewis Hotchkiss in Connecticut, Thomas Henry (known as Harry), who was General Manager of the Telegraphs in Ireland in the 1870s, and a sister Jane[Hoole?] who died after 1877.
If anyone can see a connection, I'd love to swap infornmation.
Thomas (1789-1850) also ahd a brother William, who was dead by 1843, the year his daughter Sarah married James Burton in St Pancras.
Regards
James Butler
