De Los Stos.researchers joining the Mexico DNA Surname Project

By Mercedes Marquesa December 02, 2005 at 04:26:34

Greetings fellow DE LOS SANTOS surname researchers!

This is of interest to those of you who are direct line descendants of De Los Santos ancestors and are researching the De Los Santos lines from the Northern States of Mexico.

I have recently requested a DNA kit, which I will be used to collect cell samples of my father's DNA.He is a direct line descendant of the above line.I have been informed that another researcher has also purchased a kit to do the same for his De Los Santos lines.

This is very exciting for those of us who have not made as much progress with our lines in Northern Mexico as we'd like.DNA can be compared and we will be able to tell if these line are connected and approximately how many generations back.I don't pretend to understand fully the complete implications of the testing, but it is clear to me from the results of others who have participated, that this is a great tool to confirm the research we have done. The more of us that participate, the faster our work will progress.

Since the Y chromosome is passed down from father to son, this particular test must be done on a male who is a direct line descendant of the surname you are researching.I could have used cell from one of my brothers, but it is best to use the oldest living descendant.

So now that there are at least two of us that are participating, I encourage the rest of you who can, to also order the kits to submit their DNA.There is a fee of course to have the test done, but if your relatives are from Mexico, espcially the northern states of Mexico, you can get a reduced rate by ordering through primo Gary Felix's site.He is the coordinator for this project and there are many surnames that have benefitted from this DNA testing. He will be happy to anwer any questions you may have regarding the test.

It will not be able to submit the sample of DNA till the end of this month (Dec 2005) and then it will take approximately 6 weeks before I get the results back.

I will let you all know when the results are available for viewing.

In the meantime, think seriously about submitting your De Los Santos DNA samples.
