Shive (or Shiveral) Hodgel Satterfeal was born ca 1873-1875 apparently in Kentucky. The 1880 census records show him living at the age of 6 in Russel County, KY with a Martha Hix as a boarder. This agrees with a family story that says he was orphaned as a small boy.The 1880 census spells his last name as Satterfield. He married Emma June Grammer, who was born in Kentucky September 17, 1873.She died June 8, 1950 at LeRoy, IL.Emma was the daughter of Willise Grammer and Betsy Jane Oddle. The 1900 and 1910 census records both show Shive and Emma living in Campbellsville, Taylor County, Kentucky, which would agree with the stated birthplaces of their children indicated below.
Shive and Emma Satterfeal had several children:
Willie G. Satterfeal (b. 4/4/1896 at Campbellsville, KY; d. 12/18/1964, Champaign, IL)
Lilly H. Satterfeal (b. 7/27/1899, d. 1942)
George Ewin Satterfeal (b. 9/16/1901, Campbellsville, KY; d. 7/12/1951, Decatur, IL)
James Leo Satterfeal (b.10/27/1903, Campbellsville, KY; d. 12/3/1984, Normal, IL)
Emily Jane Satterfeal (b. 7/29/1906, Campbellsville, KY; d.5/16/1984, LeRoy, IL)
Cora Virgie Satterfeal (b. 6/5/1909, Campbellsville, KY; d. 4/4/1990, Lincoln, IL)
Sarah E. Satterfeal (b. 9/12/1914, Campbellsville, KY; d. 8/11/1977, LeRoy, IL)
Willie G. Satterfeal (b. 4/4/1896 at Campbellsville, KY; d. 12/18/1964, Champaign, IL)
Lilly H. Satterfeal (b. 7/27/1899, d. 1942)
George Ewin Satterfeal (b. 9/16/1901, Campbellsville, KY; d. 7/12/1951, Decatur, IL)
James Leo Satterfeal (b.10/27/1903, Campbellsville, KY; d. 12/3/1984, Normal, IL)
Emily Jane Satterfeal (b. 7/29/1906, Campbellsville, KY; d.5/16/1984, LeRoy, IL)
Cora Virgie Satterfeal (b. 6/5/1909, Campbellsville, KY; d. 4/4/1990, Lincoln, IL)
Sarah E. Satterfeal (b. 9/12/1914, Campbellsville, KY; d. 8/11/1977, LeRoy, IL)
I am descended through my mother from George Ewin Satterfeal.I have information on all of the above Sattterfeals (their spouses, children, etc.) but it's too much to type here.I can send a copy, if you'd like.

Satterfield in Russell County, Kentucky, in the 1860 Census records.By his age at the time (36), he would have been born circa 1824.At the time of the birth of the younger Shive Satterfeal, he would have been about 49, so me may be either the father or a grandfather, I'm sot sure. And the relationship is only speculative - I don't have any records tying the two together, but the similarity of names and location make me think they MUST have been related. The elder Shiveral Satterfield married someone named Esther, and some of their children were listed at Sarah E., Susen M., and Minerva J.The 1860 census lists Shiveral Satterfield's occupation as farmer, with $3500 in real estate and $1000 in personal property.
