Stanley William Sauder obituary submitted
Stanley William Sauder was born on April 25, 1914, on a farm near Iona, Minnesota, to William and Martha Hackbarth Sauder. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Fulda.Stanley farmed south of Slayton and later near Fulda for a short time.He then returned to the family farm near Iona. On October 4, 1964, he and Faye Bryan were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Iona. Following their marriage they made their home on Stanley’s farm. In 1970, they retired and moved into Slayton, Minnesota. Stanley later moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living Apartments in Slayton; and, due to failing health, Faye became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota. On May 29, 2007, Stanley became a resident of the Golden Living Center Slayton in Slayton and passed away there on June 1, 2007, at the age of 93.Stanley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton and served as elder. He also was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Iona and served as elder and secretary. Stanley and Faye enjoyed traveling. They took several bus trips to California and Washington. Stanley enjoyed gardening, reading, and going to coffee and visiting at the Country Host with his longtime friends.
Survivors include his wife Faye, Fulda, MN; one brother Charles Sauder and his wife Ellen, Fairmont, MN; one brother-in-law Albert Berglund and his wife Eleanor, Iona, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Huge, Louise Meyer, and Marion Berglund.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church Slayton, MN on Monday, June 4, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. David McDonald officiating. Organist was Kathy Schwartz. Pallbearers were Dennis Meyer, Darrell Berglund, James Berglund, Raymond Sauder, Dale Sauder and Lynn Huge. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
