John, I saw your message and this info from the Barksdale Book may be of some interest to you. "William Barksdale md. 1st in Laurens Cty. S. Carolina, c.1775, Bethiah Saxon, dau. of Benjamin Saxon. "I find that Samuel, William and Robert Saxon, came to America from Hampshire, England, and located in New Kent Co., Virginia. Robert Saxon married Judith Graves and had: Wiliam, Joshua, Mary, Charles, Samuel, Tabitha, Benjamin and Bethiah. Charles md. Betty Washington Lewis, had Lewis Saxon and others. It appears that Charles Saxon, Sr., and Benjamin Saxon, Sr., were brothers and that Bethiah Saxon who md. William Barksdale***was a sister of Charles and Benjamin***. (Arnold,"The Arnold Family," pp.102-3) William Barksdale and Bethiah had two children, Samuel and Jane. Jane is my gggggrandmother. She was md. to Hamilton Lowry and moved from S. Carolina to Marshall Cty. Miss. Samuel was born in 1777 in Laurens Cty. S.C. where he is buried. Samuel was a planter of Laurens Cty., his plantation lying along the Bush River with the plantation home at, or near the site of his father's old home. He md. in Laurens.Cty. in 1807, Nancy Grriffin, dau. of Joseph Griffin, of Newberry and Laurens Ctys. Issue of 7 chd., John Franklin Barksdale,b.1815, d.1849,unmd.Sarah "Sallie" Barksdale, b. 1811, md. Samuel Copeland., Bethiah Saxon Barksdale,b. 1813, md. William East. Five sons, Samuel B. William East,(authr of volume of poems, killed at seven Pines, Riahmnd, Va. 1862, James H.L., Olive D., and Dr. C.D. East. 3 daus., Barbara Barksdale, b. 1815, d. 1856, unmd., Nancy Barksdale, be. 1817, d. 1858, md. Andrew Johnson, James Henry Barksdale, b.1820, d. 1866, a confederate soldier. He md. Indiana Allen in Abbgeville, S.C. 1846. There is more info and their children in the book if this helps you. I don't know if this is the same Samuel you are looking for. In the book it says they could find no further info on Jane and Samuel. Samuel could have come to Miss. with Jane and Hamilton Lowry. It says no further documentation on them and maybe these two lines are extinct but they just don't know there are lots of us from Jane Barksdale's and Hamilton Lowry's line. I have worked on the ancestry line for 15 years and it is still not completed. I have 326 pages of names from Jane and Hamilton. I think Samuel Barksdale was nemed after Samuel Saxon. Wish you good luck in finding what you are looking for.
