James, I just realized that while looking for my Sears in Chicopee that perhaps I should check on a different spelling.
My grandfather was Daniel Garvey born in Chicopee, Ma. the son of Patrick Garvey and Ellen Sears who md. 1870. Ellen's parents are supposed to be Thomas Sears/Sayers and Catherine (Connor?). Catherine is in the 1870 census of Chicopee Hampden Co. age 71 living with Patrick and Ellen Garvey who were just married. Ellen is age 20 and states her birthplace is Canada; Catherine born Ireland.
Any connection with your John?
