Hi Terry
I don't know if there is a link to your Dinny, My ggrandfather died in Tralee Co.Kerry around 1952/53. He was married to Catherine Shanahan. Places mentioned are Kenmare, Ballyheigue, Abbeydornay, Tralee and Cromane. My Denis' children were Hannah, Mary Ellen, Jeremiah and Michael Joseph (my grandad)There may have been other siblings, but I don't know of them at this time. As I stated in my first posting I can't seem to find out anything much about this family. Denis' occupation on my grandparents marriage cert is as Agricultural farm Labourer, and living in Cloonmare at the time. He was well into his 80s/90s when he died. Catherine died sometime in the 1930s.
We think that his mother may have been Mary McCarthy, as Catherine (Kit) is buried in McCarthys' Tomb in Abbeydornay old cemetary.
I can't find any record of him in the BDM in Dublin. Though we think he may have gone to America when he was aged 19/20 along with a Emily Scannell and Patrick shanahan, this would have been around the 1880s, but he came back to Ireland and married Catherine, where they stayed from then on. I have details of some of the family down from Dinny, but he is a mystery.
I don't live in Ireland, and have only been there twice since starting my tree, as I didn't know we still had family over there. They too know very little about Denis or Catherine and the generation which could have shed light on them have all passed away now.
