There are two Scannell sisters that moved to New Zealand and were buried there, I believe near Christchurch. Their neice (from Dublin) went there several years ago and had grave markers put up for them.
They, and most other Scannells, are from County Cork, Ireland. In County Cork there are two main branches, one from Western Cork near Balleyvourney, and the other from Northeastern County Cork, near Rathcormac.
I can only hazard a guess, but the name Daniel, as well as Sean, David, Edward, etc. are from Western Cork. The names of Parick, James, John, Michael, etc. are from the Rathcormac area.
