Re: Scheibly/Scheibley - Seneca Co. Ohio
I have one Jacob Sheidley/Shidle/Sheidly (1794-1853), m. Veronika Abt/Opt, ch. Benjamin, Henry, Caroline, Sarah, George, and William.Jacob was probably b. in southern Germany.Arrived in Marietta, Lancaster Co., PA, bef. 1830 and lived there until sometime in the 1840s, when he and family moved to Tiffin, Seneca Co., OH.Jacob appears in the 1850 census of Tiffin (Bloom Twp., Seneca Co., OH, p. 130).Son Henry Opt Sheidley remained in Tiffin, as did daughter Caroline (who married Rev. Isaac Seitz). The other sons moved to Kansas City, MO.
Obviously this is not your Jacob, but given the frequency with which German names were misspelled, there is a chance they were related.Do you see any overlap?
Also, I found your Michael Scheibly in the 1850 census Seneca Co., but the spelling looked like "Shively" or "Sheidy" to me.Where does your spelling come from?
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you're still checking these boards so long after posting your original message....
