Benjamin Schenck married Eliza Kinnier of Smithville, Chenango County, NY @1878
Looking for information on Benjamin Schenck (born about 1854 in New York) who married Eliza Kinnier. Eliza was from Smithville, Chenango County, New York.Looking for descendants.
I am not doing well on following this Eliza Schenck and Benjamin Schenck in the census.I am thinking they have a daughter Lise Schenck.I am looking for descendants of Benjamin (b. 1854-ish) and Eliza Kinnier.
Here is the mess I have on this couple.
1860 federal census for Smithville, Chenango County, New York
John Kinnier 50 (so born about 1810)
John Kinnier 28
Jane Kinnier 22
Eliza Kinnier 16
Margaret Kinnier 14 born Ireland
Amanda Kinnier __ [no age given]
Benjamin Hause 25
Did she marry a farmer from Onondaga County or a man from Queens, New York?
I know that Eliza Kinnier married a Schenck. The Eliza Schenck closest to Smithville in 1880 is Eliza Schenck 25 is living with [husband] Benjamin Schenck 26.I am merely guessing that Eliza married a Benjamin Schenck. There is another Schenck in another upperstate county.
On 2 March 1863, Eliza Kinnier Schenck's uncle, James Harrison, died.In 1866 "Eliza Schenck, Niece," was taxed $13.70 on the $252. inheritance.(Ancestry.comU.S. IRS Tax Assessment Lists, 1862-1918.Accessed 23 February 2011 by Peg Ross and Chris Buck, Historians in Chenango County, New York.)
1880 federal census for Plainville, Onondaga County, New York
Benjamin Schenck 26 [so born about 1854] in New York, both his parents born in New York
Eliza Schenck 25 NY NY NY
Lise J. Schenck son [yes, son] NY NY NY
John Schenck 76 widower born NY to father born in New Jersey and a mothe rborn in New York
Charles Benzing 22 NY, both parents born in Hesse Cassel [Germany probably]
Martha I. Shadbolt 51, widowed aunt, born NY, both ehr parents born in CT.
This Eliza has shaved 5 years off her life, very common among Harrison women.
1870 census has an Elizabeth [not Eliza] Schenck 20 married to Ellis Schenck 23, both born in New York. They have a [son] Philip Schenck 3 and a [daughter] Louisa Schenck 2/12, two months old, both children born in New York.Possibly Ellis's mother is Maria Schenck 51, born in New York. Also in this household are 6 people with the last name West.
Here is an Eliza Schenck that has the age (20) and the name (Eliza) correct. However, in this family she appears to be a daughter and sister, not a wife.Irish Eliza here has married into a German family.
Eliza Schenk 20 born New York
George Schenk 48 carpenter Bavaria
Christine Schenk 52 Prussia
George Schenk 21 New York
John Schenk 18 born New York
Julia 14 born New York
Andrew 9 born New York
Maybe in 1870 Eliza had not yet married.
Eliza Kinnier Schenck cannot be found in 1900 census by me.She may be dead of have remarried.Same with her daughter Lise Schenck, dead or married.
ANOTHER OR THE SAME ELIZA SCHENCK
1900 Wheatfield, Niagara, New York [in Niagara, New York]
Charles Deglow 62
Fanny Deglow 52
Eliza Deglow 18
Eliza Schenck 47, sister-in-law to the head of household.
Eliza Kinnier Schenck's brother-in-law would have been a Schenck.OR Eliza would have a sister Fanny, which she did not.
ANOTHER ELIZA SCHENCK
1900 Hector, Schuyler, New York
William C. Lowe widowed
Eliza Snick [Schenck], sister of William, born about 1850, New York, NY, NY
This Eliza was mother of three, of whom two are living.
This Eliza is not right.Eliza would not have had a brother named Mr. Lowe; her brothers would be Kinniers.
