Schendel family - 1608
The Schendel family from Posen has been traced back to 1608 in the Deutsches Geschlecterbuch, published in 1933 (pages 347-392).However, the print font is that wonderful German Fraktur script. Also, some of the words are abbreviated, on the generous assumption that the reader will know what each abbreviation represents. Some lines run for 10 generations, some dead-end much earlier.
My Great-great-grandfather's family is of the Zweiter (Second) Beyersdorfer Unterstamm, which starts in the fourth generation in 1693, with the birth of Adam Schendel, who married Sophie Abraham, and had 7 children.Got that?
The fifth generation is the Aelterer Ast, with Christoph Schendel, born in 1721, who married Elisabeth Dorothea Draeger, and had 11 children.
The sixth generation is the Dritter Zweig, with Balthasar Schendel, born in 1761, who married Anne Christine Pockrandt, and had 9 children.
The seventh generation is the Juengeres Beyersdorfer Haus, with Peter August Schendel, born in 1800, and married Anna Rusina (Rusella) Milbradt, and had 2 children.Their oldest son, Gottlieb August Schendel, is my great-great-grandfather, who died in Michigan. The book only records his birth in 1825.
I requested copies, which were reluctantly provided by the Newberry Library in Chicago. The book was quite fragile, and the staff warned me they would cease copying, if, at any time, they felt the book was being damaged.
I have transcribed the names and birthdates in an Excel format, which has 500+ lines.I can e-mail this to anyone who contacts me directly.I can also provide copies of the original pages. Please do not post any requests here in GenForum.Click on my name above this post to see my direct e-mail address.
Wouldn't it be great if we could start a Schendel family web-site to record all our data in one place?Any volunteers?
