John Van Ness Schermerhorn

I am trying to tie John Van Ness Schermerhon to Edwin Schermerhorn who died 1873 in Saratoga.

1. Both men married in the Christ Church (Episcopal) of Ballston Spa.
2.Both men emerged from Ballston Spa
3. In the land records is 1865 Book 102 Page 202 of Nicholas and Elizabeth Schermerhorn to Jacobus Schermerhorn.

I wonder if this Jacobus Schermerhorn is the father of John Van Ness Schermerhorn and if they are 1st cousins.

I wonder why Edwin chose to remove to Saratoga as his family ties seem to be in Schenectady NY.Perhaps it was the Jacobus Schermerhorn family.
