Re: Charlotte Schincke/Shincke from Germany
My grandfather, Franz Yoseph Schink was originally from Prussia but his name was changed at Ellis Island (for ease of pronounciation) to Frank Joseph Schink when he immigrated in 1914. The Surname spelling, however, was NOT changed and is clearly reflected in the documentation. This appears to be the original German spelling of his name. His nationality was listed as German, though he often stated he was from Prussia.Unfortunately, this is all the information I have concerning him at this time.I'm still looking for more, but I understand that Schink is quite a common German/Prussian surname and I have only just begun my search.
