You are correct - my Schischka line originated in Bohemia (the earliest spelling I found was Ziska; alternates are Siska, Schischka, and, in America, the name was changed to Schiska).
A large number of Bohemian Schischkas left from the area around Pilsen (Plzen) to New Zealand aboard the ship "War Spirit" in the 1860s; the ship and the Schischka name is still well known in New Zealand, especially around Puhoi.While my gr. grandfather brought his family to the US, his three sisters went with their families to NZ on the War Spirit.
While I don't know anything specific about Schiskar in London (although I love the city and would _like_ to have relatives in the UK...), the timeframe may be significant.My Schischka ancestors left circa 1865 and the ones that came from Bremen sailed via Southampton.After getting a taste of what it would be like to sail to the US, maybe the smarter ones stopped in England...
