Re: Christian Schlechty-m. in Darke Co 1839
I have seen this surname spelled many different ways in records. In my family it is spelled Nevius and this is the standard way coming from Holland back in the 1600's.One branch spelled it Nafeus. Since my last post I found a bio in "History of Darke Co" by Frazier Wilson, of Hezekiah Woods who married a daughter (Lucretia) of Albert Nevius and Hetty. It spells the name as Nevius and also states Hetty's maiden name as Bellus. I believe Hetty to be a sister to Adam Bellis of Darke Co and the Adam Bellis family is buried in Ft Jefferson Pioneer Cemetary in Neave Twp. I have often wondered about this twp of Neave and if it is connected in name to my Nevius family but I really don't know.
You also asked about baptism of Christian Schlechty that I found. I don't have a copy of the original baptism. I found it on a list somewhere but can give you my notes on it.""Records of Swamp Reformed (Little Cocalico) Church, West Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania 1788-1822 shows a Christian Schlechty born Feb 28 1797 (probably Christian Jr from 1840 census of Darke Co., Ohio census -right age-) father Christian Schlechty and sponsor is Christian Schlechty (grandfather? or father?).
