Re: schloesser family in indiana
Nicolas, my Schloesser came from Germany around 1856. My great-grandfather, Carl August Copenhagen was a step-son to Augustus F.W. Schloesser, b. March 17, 1815, d. Dec. 10, 1868. His wife's name (my gggrandmother) was Louise Baeber Copenhagen Schloesser. There was a son Albert H. who Americanized his name to Slesser traveling with them. I do not know where Augustus came from. My ggrandfather's sea chest bore the inscription August Schloesser, aus Pohlde, Amt Herzberg. I have located the village of Pohlde at the southern foot of the Harz Mountain range in Germany. They ended up in Livingston Co., KY, on the Ohio border and farmed for a living, around 1860. I do not know where they were from 1856 to 1860.
