I saw your posting on Schneider/Snyder. I am also a schneider/snyder. I am not sure if we are connected, but Joseph Schneider, b. 24 Oct. 1833-36 who immigrated in 1852 into New York, changed his name to Snyder. He settled near Drainlick, which is now Drifting.
He married Barbara Pieffer about 1850. I do not know where. Barbara immigrated in 1847, so I assume they were married in the U.S.
They had 10 children, but only 5 made it to adulthood. One of the children's name is Peter. He was born 1856 in Drifting, clearfield co. Penn His real name was Albert Peter, but they called him Peter.
I have been trying to find Joseph Sr.'sparents. I believe his father's name was Adam, but not sure. I do know Joseph Sr. states in various census that he was born in France. Barbara was born in France also. Other census Joseph states that he was born in Germany. We have concluded that he must have been born in the area of France/Germany. There was an Adam living next to them in Clearfield Co. Penn. in the 1870-1880's. Maybe Adam is an uncle??
Joseph and Barbara are my great great grandparents.
Does any of this sound familiar to you??
I have been at a standstill for years. I just do not know who to look for. I don't even know where they were located.
Good luck in your search.
