The surname Schoultz occurs in South Africa, and among my ancestors. The surname was originally Schultz, and the "Schoultz" branch of the family seems to have originated in Landau in Germany in the early 1700's. Landau was under French occupation for a long time and only reverted to Germany (actually the Palatinate or Pfalz) after the defeat of Napoleon. The French spelling of the name dates from the period of French occupation. My ancestor in Landau was Friedrich Sch(o)ultz, a medical doctor. His son, Jean-Baptiste emigrated to South Africa, where the name Jean-Baptiste was eventually corrupted to Jan Bethesda or Jan Petesda. Are there any Schoultz's (with the French spelling) in the USA or elsewhere?
