My family had a coverlet that had been passed down to the eldest female for many generations. In the corner there is signature of an eagle, the initials P.S., Juniata Co, 1839. After a visit to the Smithsonian it was determined that it was most likely woven by Peter Shallenberg, Phillip Schum, or Peter Stauffer. There are Stauffers closely related to the original owner of the coverlet. Does anyone know any thing about Phillip Schum the Penn weaver?
