We would like to connect with anyone researching this family.
We begin with Franz Schwarz, b. ca 1771, a musician, Zweibrucken, Germany. His son Johann, b married Susanna Margaretha Braun. They had: Charles (Franz Carl) b. 1833 Emil August b. 1835 Juliana Maria Anna b. 1837 Johann b. 1839 Nicholas (Nicolaus) b. 1843 Carolina b. 1846 Eleonora b. 1850
The family emigrated in the 1850s, so far as we can guess. The elder Johan was a tailor; their son Nicholas made jewelry boxes in New York City. Charles, Emil, and John came to Savannah, Georgia, and their father followed after 1870 (he was widowed in New York). One of the daughters may have married an August Schoenauer (sp?) in New York.
John came to Savannah and married Elizabeth Endres, daughter of Peter Endres. He became an assemblyman and in 1889, mayor of Savannah, and afterwards sheriff of Chatham County.
Charles and his wife, Elizabeth (nee unknown) had a daughter Caroline (Carolina) and a son Charles, and possibly more children. Of particular interest would be information on his wife's maiden name.
Anyone connect? We hope so! I am also posting this on the Schwartz board since records have the spellings both ways. --Laura Alderson Raleigh, NC
