Marcus/Marx Schwenk, Schuylkill 1780
I found something interesting in looking for Marcus/Marx Schwenk. He shows up in Bern Twp, Berks County, and
later was an early settler in Brunswick and Manheim
Twp in Schuylkill County.
I have pieced together what I think is a list of his children (and which seems to float about on the internet, but without all the attached notes).I've been researching this family for some time now.Marcus appears to be a separate line, possibly immigrating as a child. He's not been associated with any of the other PA Schwenk fmailies.
Anyways, in looking for leads, I've been watching the first record of Marx, where he is a sponsor to Adam Schweiger/Schweigert and wf Eva in 1757.There is also an
Adam Schweiger and wf Elisabeth later at Old Red Church in Brunswick and later at the same church in Manheim with the Schwenk family.I don't know if it's an Adam Jr in Schuylkill Co, or if original Adam remarried.Adam Schweiger moved to Brunswick Twp a couple years before Marcus Schwenk joined him (according to tax lists).
Anyways, I'm figuring his relatives would likely show up in the earliest baptismal sponsorships so I've followed the Schweigert family around. I believe Adam is the one listed in 1753 on the ship Brother.
Today, looking at the LDS site, I found that there were Schwenk's named Marcus/Marx in Ruebgarten, Schwarzwaldkreis, Wuerttemberg. One was born 1718 (too old) and the other
born 1755 (too late). But the later one was born to parents Jacob Schwenk and Barbara Schwaiger (!).Now if this Jacob had a brother Marcus...Well, anyways, I thought it interesting that the names Marcus Schwenk, Jacob Schwenk
(Marcus's first son) and Schweiger all show up in the same place in Germany.Possibly coincidence though. If anyone has access to the LDS films, this might be worth checking. The online site has mostly records on the Schweiger family and only sparse records on the Schwenk family.
The name Marcus Schwenk isn't too common. The next time I see it is in Conrad Schwenk Jr having a son Marcus in 1825 (where Conrad Sr was son of Marcus I believe).
