Josiah MOODY & Sarah SCRIBNER...Question please

By Silver Hawk January 13, 2005 at 05:53:29

I am trying to find out if Anyone has discovered if Josiah and Sarah Scribner MOODY did indeed have a son named Jonathan?Robert Anderson's 1986 TAG article mentioned no son Jonathan for Josiah but many have places a son Jonathan to this couple.I am trying to determine if in anyone's digging around they have found some sort of substantial evidence (deed, will, probate, church etc. etc. VR's) that would give credit to this claim.

I am searching for my own 5th grt. grandfather James4 MOODY who I believe was one of the surviving children of Joseph3 and Mary Leavitt MOODY (Clement1 > Clement 2 Moody & Elizabeth Scribner).According to Robert Anderson's TAG article, any sons born in the 4th generation must belong to Joseph3 Moody because he was the only married and old enough at the time to have children born in the 1740's.

Also because of the link to York Co., ME which is where my James shows up on record for the very first time when he married on Jan. 13, 1774 at the Church of Christ in Buxton by the Rev. Paul Coffin to Elizabeth DONALD.Then in 1776 James enlists in the Rev. War at Ticonderoga, NY into Capt. Daniel Lane's company (another Buxton man who has ties to NH), and then James and Elizabeth have at least 3 known children...Joseph, Sarah and James.Son Joseph I believe was named for James' father.
Son Joseph is my 4th grt. grandfather who lived in Buxton for until around 1815 and then moved to Brunswick, Cumberland Co., Maine where he married a 2nd time to Hannah MITCHELL a supposed Passamaquoddy or Mi'kmaq Indian.
They had my 3rd grt. grandfather Joseph D. Moody born c1820 who was an Indian doctor in Lowell, MA for several years before his death in around 1876/77.

It is my belief that James Moody born c1748-ish was a son of Joseph and Mary Leavitt MOODY of Brentwood / Kingston, NH.They both died of smallpox as did several of their children but several children were known to have survived as well. But with no living parents they were probably sent to be raised by next of kin.I believe its possible that my James could have been raised by his Uncle Samuel Moody and Aunt Hannah Severance in Shapleigh, ME, or Alfredgore where they lived for a while.

If anyone has further info on the Josiah Moody and son Jonathan connection, Please leave a message for me.
Thank You for any help.
