Sandy:
Alice Scroggy was born in New Jersey June 1826 to Elizabeth Scroggy and (until I saw your message suspected, but couldn't confirm) Job Rogers Scroggy was her father.Alice Scroggy married Michael Marshall (son of Joseph Marshall and Mary Sterling Marshall) in Salem township, Columbiana county on August 22, 1847.The Marshall family lived in Franklin Square, Columbiana county.Michael and Alice Marshall appear in the 1850 census for Columbiana county.Sometime between 1850 and 1860 (I think) Michael and Alice Scroggy Marshall moved to Iowa, eventually settling in Millville, Clayton county.Elizabeth Scroggy shows up in the 1870 Iowa census, an invalid, living with Alice Scroggy Marshall and Michael Marshall.Alice Scroggy Marshall is buried at the Goshen Grove cemetary in Millville, Clayton county, Iowa(dod 5-2-1910), as is Michael Marshall (dod 3-28-1890) but did live for some time in Delaware county in the Greeley-Manchester area, after her husband's death, as did some of her children. My ancestor is Winfield Scott Marshall, son of Michael Marshall and Alice Scroggy.
I note that you say Ann Scroggy married James Hamilton Carpenter in 1840 at Franklin Square, Ohio and died in Black Hawk county, Iowa.I believe Black Hawk county and Delaware county were at one time together, and I always wondered what made Michael and Alice move to Iowa, as the rest of the Marshall family moved to northern Ohio around 1856.Israel Scroggy (who I believe is a brother of Alice and Ann) also lived in Black Hawk county, Iowa and also Stacy Scroggy, a brother.Elizabeth Scroggy is on the 1850 census Columbiana county, Ohio, with what I believe is her son John Scroggy, although they state place of birth PA and the age isn't exactly right (I assume somebody goofed when the data was collected.)The other Scroggy's on the Columbiana county census, Salem area, I believe were grandchildren of Job Rogers Scroggy and Elizabeth Scroggy, because the time frame within which they are getting married and they show up on the 1850 census as teenagers living with John Scroggy 46and Elizabeth Scroggy 60. Maryetta Scroggy married John McConner on July 24, 1851 Columbiana county; Rachel Scroggy married Levi B. Derr on November 15, 1855, Columbiana county .
