This is what I think happened: In a letter to a niece, Thomas N. Norrell stated "This much I learned that my father Levi Norrell, who imigrated to S. C. from the Old Ireland Country and mother Catherine Gwinn Norrell or Gwynn, as some spelled it later..." and the errors were perpetuated from researcher to researcher as they thought he must know his mother's maiden name. But we KNOW that Levi was not the one from Old Ireland Country and from Jesse Scurry's will that Catherine was his daughter so Thomas's research was simply that of word of mouth which was taken for proven genealogical fact. Further, he says "My mother was a Gwinn, or Gwynn of SC. About 1826 or 27 one of her brothers, Martin Guinn, came and lived with us one year and went to Yazoo Co....." I think he is referring to her nephew Morris Gwinn. You might want to check it out. He says this Gwinn settled in Yazoo Co., MS and d. there about 1845. Doris
