    Willie E. SEARCY 4/21/01

I had this all written out once and somethow got rid of it.I am new at this new program.
Robert Scarsey bn. ca. 1743 md Millie Ballard apparently in Alb. Co., Va. by 1777 he was in Henry Co., Va. where he took oat of allegience. from there he went to Burke Co., N. C. where he died by 1796 when Millie was on tax. list.Robert was in 1790 cens of Burke Co., N. C. with the children that were found in Rutherford Co, taken from Burke Co.Robert Scarsey obtained two pieces of land in Burke Co. Which spelling was Scarsey in the Survey Box but later record is Searcy.Robert and Millie had 8 children: John bn. 1764 in Rev. W.;2. Richard bn. ca. 1766: 3. William bn. ca. 1769-70 ?Albem. Co., Va.,md. Frances Dalton:4. Reuben bn. 1774+ (by all census records except one which family all off. and Age at his death in 1850 mortality schedule had to be off, probably given by a guess. But he apparently give his age at cens.and the one that was off must have been marked in wrong box): md. Lucy Elizabth Dalton 5. David md. 1801 Jestin Dalton and #2 1804 Betsy Spivey-may be him in Jackson Co. MO.: 6. Elizabeth b. ca. 1779Henry Co. Va. md. Amos Green: 7. Robert Scearcy bn. Aug. 1782 Va. Md. 1802 Mary Spivet Ruth. Co., N. C.: 8. Sarah bn. 1784 Va.

John bn. 1764 in his Rev. papers says he was bn. Alb. Co Va. was drafted from his father's house in Henry Co., Va. 1781 and that his father, with family moved to Burke Co., N. C. and that he John, after the war, in 1800 to Rutherford Co. N. C. In 1810 cens. he is counted with children but no wife. in 1823 he md. #2 Barbara Ingle:Johns records given here fit the Record of Robert Scarsey who took oath 1777 in Henry Co., Va. and two deeds for land later in Burke Co. N. C. and in 1790 cens with children the right age. There is no Searcys of Grnaville Co. N. C. ever in Alb. Co., Va. Henry Co., Va. or Burke Co. N. C. or Rutherford Co., N. C.I have a very large collection of this family and They went from Hanover Co., Va. to Grnaville Co., N. Ca. and are in the records there.I am through John Searcy Jr. and Annis ?Williams, and got interested in the Scarcy family when I found people putting John Scearcy, etc, as son of John and Annis, when their son John died fighting in the Cumb. Settlement by 1783 when 640 ac was alotted to h is heirs-3 minor sons John, Richard and Reuben, who were located in Sumner Co., Ten.
Remember that Rutherford Co., N. C. was taken from part of Burke Co.
Remember to that 1790 cens taken from old tax records: We know that 1790 cens. in 5th Co. with Robert of Burke Co. contain children of the correct age, including William. We know that William got md. Oct. 1790. We know that 1790 cens 4th Co. Richard bn. ca 1766 was on pge 116 and pg. 117 is William with a new wife. 1800 cens. if Richard Scarcy pg. 144 (from original) and on Same Page is William Scarcy with wife and 3 sons and 2 fem. that fit the Children of William and Frances.: on the same page is Reuben Scarcy and Amos Green. 1810 cens. pg. 436 if Richard and William still with children of the right age for William and Frances. 1820 cens. Richard Searcy is on pg. 355 and Bro. Reuben same page. David and Robert (s/o Richard) all on page. 370. Pg. 372 is Elijah and William Searcy-and Ch. 1830 cens. is Hiram Scarcy pg. 462 with John and Robert, and Thomas pg. 534. Many of the first records, even from transcribed records show Sc spelling.Richard, William, Reuben, David, Robert, John all signed (X) and all but John we know had a dau. Millie. We do not know the names of all John's children' s names, only Elijah s/o Barbara. He had daus with him in 1810 cens. but don' know the names.Richard bn. 1766 died prior to 1830.
1800 cens we have transcribed Willie a female but it is Millie.1810 she seems to be with Richard and in 1812 Millie Scarcy purchased 100 acs. from Edw. Reaves. It was Robert bn. 1782 md. Mary Spivey that left N. C. after his 2nd child was born and went to Tenn, Ind, where he grew a crop, then to Ill. where his dau., Sarah md. in Sangamon Co., and joined the Mormons in 1846 giving her parents as Robert Scearcy and Mary Spivey. Sarah went to Washington Co., Utah where she died.Have letters from her sister Emily Miller (sent to me by J.M. Royston a descendant of Hiram also). The Scearcy family bur. in Rock Cr. Cem. in Keokuk Co. Iowa with the Scearcy spelling. William md. Sarah Miller (s/o Robert and Mary and b/o Sarah above) is written up and has written articles in History of Keokuk Co Iowa (1880) nameing his parents as Robert Scearcy and Mary Spivey.
My advice to you and everyone in Genealogy to go to original records before you are satisfied with you infor.I have done this many times in Parker line I found several big errors handed down through the years which were all wrong. In my Searcy family, as I stated I found people giving John bn. 1764 in Alb. Co., VA. when proof of deeds taxes etc that My John Searcy was never in Alb. Co. and that his son John died in Cumb. settlements. My Fuqua family had Elizabeth Parker as d/o Geo. when a little effort found she was d/o William and Martha Drucilla Colquitt.Elizabeth had md. Benj. Terry and had a dau. Drucilla. We could never find where she died.Well Original Records found Martha (Note Drucilla)Fuqua d/o Terry death handed in same time as David
Fuqua. The transcribed records has her as d/o Terny. So beware of transcribed records.
Hope this helps. Waunita Powell
