Notes for NICHOLAS SEAVER:
Nicholas Seaver settled in Dublin, Ireland in 1650 and changed his abode to Ballaghy, Co.
Armaugh, where he held much land in his own right under a grant from Charles I.It has been a
tradition in the family that, as an officer in the English army, he came to Ireland with Cromwell's
army, but there has been no clue as to the part of England from which he came.

Other authorities think it probable that he descended from ancesters who previously settled in
Ireland. Nicholas became a protestant in 1650, having been a Catholic before that date. His will
was dated 1687 and he died not long after.

While quite young, he went to Austrailia and worked in the "diggin's". He later became a
schoolmaster, then surveyor in the Surveyor General's Department, Adelaide, S. Australia. He
later became Assistant Chief Engineer to the City Engineer of Adelaide. He then went into
business for himself as a Civiland Mining Engineer.He was a Government Mining Surveyor in
New South Wales, and Member of Parliment for New South Wales. He was made Medalist of the
Royal Society of Sydney, F.G.S. and F.R.C.S. Heath Hall having passed out of the family,
Jonathan repurchased or rebuilt it and "placed his father back as he left it 50 years before." He
travelled very much over Canada, Alaska, the U.S.A., and Mexico. On his return to england, he
brought his family with him. He and his family later took up temporary residence on this
continent. He was in Texas, Oklahoma (then Indian territory), and Mexico. Soon after the
beginning of World war I, he eas employed by the Admiralty and Army as an engineer. In 1917,
he was given a commission in the Royal Flying Corps (afterwards called the Royal Air Force).
After serving for a time at the front as a Lieutenant, he was commended for gallantry and was sent
to Paris as Commander of all the Royal Air Force passing through Paris.After the war, he went
to South Africa, then returned to England and lived at 52 Castleton Road, London, W. 14.
