Re: Connection to Laura and James Secord ?
John Secord and Phoebe Travis.
That John Secord (1726-1804) was the older brother of James Secord and the uncle of the James who married Laura Ingersoll.
John, James and their brother Peter were all the sons of Daniel Secord and Catherine Mabie. (Daniel was the grandson of Ambroise Sicard the Huguenot)
The 3 brothers and their wives and children went from New Rochelle, NY to the Susquehanna River Valley in Wyoming Co, Pennsylvania in 1773. John's farm was near Tunkhannock. The other 2 were near Mehoopany.
(Their sister Mary Secord and her husband Joshua Beebe also ended up near to her brothers in PA)
The James you are interested in was born in New Rochelle in 1773 and was just a few months old when they moved to PA. His parents were James (Jacques) Secord (1732-1784) and Madelaine Badeau (1739-1796)
In 1776 all three Secord families were Loyalists and lost their farms and had to flee.
The men and their older sons joined Butlers Rangers, the woman and childeren went to Canada. James was 3 years old when he went with his mother and the younger children to Canada.
In Canada James met and married Laura Ingersoll, the daughter of Thomas Ingersoll, a Patriot who had come from Massachusetts about 1796.
