Yes John Sevier was the first governor of Tennessee. A founder of the Watauga Association which later became the state of Franklin. the state was founded in 1784, went bankrupt in 1789 and ceded back into North Carolina. John Sevier was a revolutionary war hero, leading a bank of wilderness men over the mountain to join the continental army in N.C. He is considered the father of Tennessee and there is a county which bears his name (sevier co.) and a large statue of him in front of the Knox County courthouse.
