Sellmers in Northern Germany
Let me be the first to post a message regarding the Sellmers spelled with two l's. As on the Selmer board, I'm researching my grandmother's family who came from Russee,Germany (now part of Kiel). Her grandfather came from Romohr, a small town not far away. I was visiting relatives in that part of Germany last May, and was surprised to see that these towns are very small, and also close together. I stayed in Flintbek, which was about fifteen minutes to Neumunster. So, many of the Sellmers from northern Germany could have been related. Also, this part of Germany was once part of Denmark. So, the Sellmers in Denmark could have also been related. We have a copy of a document signed by the King of Denmark, giving permission to my ggrandfather to apprentice as a cartmaker. I also have a copy of a book about the families of Russee.
Bock, Ohl, Mier, Mordhorst, Jager, are other family names that I'm researching. I'd be happy to do 'lookups' for others who believe their family came from Russee.
