Sells Bros. Circus
I have NO idea if I am even remotely related to the Sells Brothers Circus "boys", but I love the idea of possibly having a circus "in the family"
I came across a really interesting series of articles on the Sells Brothers' Circus at:
http://www.shortnorth.com/CircusTown.htmlhttp://www.shortnorth.com/CircusTown.html
and also found some circus posters!! (which of course, I HAD to buy) on eBay, and at circusworldmuseum.com.There are posters from the "Adam Forepaugh and Sells Brothers Circus" and the "Sells-Floto Circus".
From what I gather, the Sells brothers father, Peter, was a Methodist lay preacher who had 11 children, 4 of whom went into the circus business. The minister Peter's grandfather was Ludwig Sells, a German immigrant, who lived in Huntingdon County, PA, in the late 1700's.This gives me hope that I am related in some way, through Abraham (Abram?) Sells, my ancestor, who was also of German descent, and also lived in PA. (if anyone can fill in the blanks for me on that, it would be greatly appreciated!)
