Barb,
I do not know if we have a Jacob Selzer in the family or not.My Martin Selzer was born on May 6, 1840 in Satulmare St. Radutz Bukowina, Oestereich. This is present day Transylvania. He died Nov. 29, 1922 in Dallas, Tx.He married Amalie "Mollie" Huber in 1862.I have a german obit for Martin and it mentions they had 7 children, but I don't know all their names. The ones I know are 1.Martin b. June 5, 1873 m. Theresia Porth, 2. Simon b. Aug 1875, 3.Fannie b.Jan 1878 d.1909 m. J.A. Neff and is buried in Denton, Tx., 4. Bertha Matilda Selzer b.Mar. 17, 1882 d. Dec. 24, 1973 m. Perry George, and 5. Willie Selzer b. Dec. 10, 1887 d. June 14, 1933. Willie was the only one born in the U.S.I have also heard one child may have drown in a well in the old country.
Amalie Huber was born in Altfratautz, St. Radutz Bukowina, Oestereich on July 25, 1943. She died May 11, 1895 and is buried in Argyle, Tx.
On Martin's death record, it lists his father to be Martin Selzer also, but his mother's name is unknown.
Do you know if your family has dark features? Martin Appears to be fair and light headed. His daughter, Matilda( my greatgrandmother) has dark hair and eyes. I have a photo of Fannie and she has even darker features.I was curious as to their nationality.Martin was German, but I'm not sure about Amalie. She came from farther east closer to present day Ukraine. From what I can read about the history of this area, it had several different nationalities because it had been invaded and conquered so many times throughout history.
Was Selzer a common name in the old country?I don't know if were related, but it is possible, Martin was in that area at the time Pauline was born.
